Pembrokeshire Nature Reserve Pond Restoration

14 September 2023, Pembrokeshire, Wales — Nature Reserve

Project Overview

A small wildlife pond had become heavily silted and overgrown with reeds, reducing water depth and limiting habitat value. The objective was to restore the pond while preserving the surrounding environment.

Silt Removal

The Truxor silt pump transferred sediment into dewatering bags positioned nearby. Each bag was allowed to drain before being refilled, enabling large volumes of material to be removed efficiently over several days. Once the bulk of the sediment had been removed, a grab bucket attachment was used to excavate a central silt island and reopen the natural brook feeding the pond.

Results

Water depth was significantly increased, natural water flow restored, and the pond returned to a healthier condition capable of supporting a wider range of aquatic wildlife.
