Canal Reed Clearance in Oxfordshire

8 November 2023, Oxfordshire — Canal & River Trust

Project Overview

Encroaching reed growth was beginning to narrow sections of the canal, restricting water movement and increasing future maintenance requirements.

Operations

The Truxor harvested reeds directly from the water, allowing operators to access areas unreachable by conventional machinery while working safely from the canal itself. Works were scheduled outside sensitive nesting periods and carried out using selective cutting techniques to retain valuable marginal habitat.

Results

Navigation margins were restored, water movement improved and the canal was left in a condition that will require significantly less maintenance over the coming seasons.
